Amplifying Your Content Strategy in 2024: Insights from My Own Content Strategy

In the ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing, content strategy plays a pivotal role in shaping brand awareness and engagement. And in 2023 I learned a lot. I perfected a new system, and a new approach to content creation, and I am in it for the LONG game. And now I want to share it all with you.

Shifting Focus to YouTube

Last year, I decided to pivot my content strategy towards YouTube, emphasizing the long-term brand awareness that this platform offers. I was tired of the overwhelming pace of platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Respecting the fluctuating energy levels that come along with having ADHD, I fell in love with batching long-form content once a month.

And in that, I found solace in the ability to consistently show up on YouTube. I focused on one platform, so I could effectively repurpose content for multiple social media platforms, and I amplified my reach while producing less content overall. The vast majority of the content I create comes straight from my YouTube videos. I no longer worry about coming up with a new content idea every day for Instagram or worry about jumping on every trend on TikTok.

Now, that kinda thing, I do for fun when I feel like it, and my whole strategy doesn't rely on it.

Diversification and Building Resilience

While YouTube was my primary focus in 2023, I allocated time to nurture my email newsletter and engage with communities on platforms like Threads and LinkedIn. With this new system and repurposing approach I was able to diversify reach and build resilience against the unpredictable nature of social media platforms.

You know the saying: don't put all your eggs in one basket. So I made sure I had a lot of eggs in a lot of baskets.

And now, if you are new to content creation, and you are reading this... just know that you don't need to do everything that I do. In fact, it's damn near impossible in the beginning. I am ten years into this. Start with one platform. Give yourself some grace, and slowly work into diversifying.

Pivoting Towards Growth in 2024

For the upcoming year, I aim to shift focus towards expanding my YouTube channel. I have to pat myself on the back and say that I damn near perfected my content creation process and system over the past year. I wasn't focused on growth, I was focused on consistency and finding my groove. And now, I can take the time to deploy a more aggressive strategy to grow my numbers on YouTube!

I also recognized the value of a strong email list, and I aspire to double its size. I want to make sure that I can connect with my audience on a more personal and stable platform. You know, so I am not at the whim of some algorithm all the time.

Podcast as a Complementary Channel

I made a bold move. I introduced a podcast, "The Content Collective," to cater to audiences who prefer consuming content on the go. Quick funny story: the name cam from a failed product in 2023, a paid newsletter. That's where the name comes from. Oh, and people have been begging me for a podcast for literal years.

The podcast provides an alternative avenue for people to consume my long-form YouTube content. I take the audio from my YouTube video, add an intro and outro, move a few things around and simply post it! The reason? I want to emphasize to you the importance of meeting you audience where they are. And that is the ultimate goal of the podcast. This is a strategic move to accommodate diverse audience preferences with how they prefer to consume content.

Will I have exclusive podcast content? Sure. At some point. I would love to do more solo episodes, guest episodes, bonus drops, Q+A style where I answer your question. All in due time friend.

Specialization and Skill Elevation

One of the most significant changes for 2024 is my decision to lean into niche specialization. Up until this point I have produced more generalized content, you know the Canva tips, how to change the color of your Instagram Story background... all great things.

But now I want to embrace a more focused role as a content strategist for small business owner, catering to the organizational and strategic needs when creating content. This shift represents a commitment to elevate the quality of content and provide audiences with a deeper understanding of content strategy.

My content was serving Content Creation Basics 101, and now we are advancing to Content Strategy 301.

My Content and Business Goals for 2024

As I look ahead, I aim to prioritize growth on YouTube and my email list, to double the number of subscribers by the end of the year on both platforms.

Alongside that, I plan to update my course, "The Content System," to reflect everything I perfected and learned in 2023. I want to provide small business owners with the exact framework on how I create 30+ pieces of content a week - a proven content creation process.
